Go to a performance

On the last day of the 2008, Libby and I went to Nanjing Olympic stadium watch Nikia music concert. There were many people there and they were all excited.

The show was began at about 7 p.m and it got dark very soon. Before the show start, there were people in front of the stadium selling water and some lights, even people wanted to sell extra tickets. We tried to enter the gate but there were so many people so we have to be more careful. People inside were also very excited and shouted and busy taking photos.

Two of the moderates I like, they are He Jiong and Xie na .I have know them because of another famous program, and I think they can bring people happiness.

The concert has just began, the songs there were very nice and most of them I enjoyed a lot.

I think everyone there was very coordinate with the moderates and very excited in it. I really think it was unforgettable because it was the last concert in 2008 and 2008 was a unusual year because of the Olympic games and so on. I would like to go to the concert the next time.

Participate in a Service Activity

Last month, I learnt some making food skills from the exchange students, for our group, we learnt about cooking pancakes, let me tell you some details about cooking. First, we need to buy some materials. Vegetable oil, flour, salt, eggs, milk and something to cook. Then we have to wash our hands and put 250g flour in the pot and then put four eggs at the center of the flour, after that we have to add milk and stir them together until it all mixed. Then we have to relax and wait for the flour to precipitate for thirty minutes, after the long waiting, we have to cook it, as you know, the pancakes are very thin so we need to separate them into small pieces and put small pieces in the saucepan and wait until it almost cooked. But when it was cooked, you have to turn the pancake around and that will make it taste more delicious.
One pancake is finished and you will see it is really delicious. When we cooked all these pancakes, it takes us almost the whole afternoon.

Act in a performance

During NFLS　45th celebration, we six girls played Guzheng for Only & Frank to dance with . So far, I can still remember the nervous at that moment.

Before the performance, we have practiced almost every night even the weekends, until the last Friday before the performance, the teachers still said not so good to us. That made us feel disappointed and we had no choice but to continue practicing. I still remember that morning when we played for the secondary school students the instrument was not comfortable enough and I made a big mistake, because of the noisy, no audience heard about it. But in the afternoon, when we practised for the GCA students and the senior school students, I really felt nervous because I did not want to make mistakes any more and I really hard prepared it.

The show was just start, the environment was changed and so many people were there with cameras or cellphone, and I was so excited that had forget I was in the performance. The first paragraph I played was a little slow because of this, but after that I was trying to used to it and knew I was really in the play and I have to serious.

At last, I think I really did well and I think this is one of my unforgetable performance...

Volunteer work（library）

I have had a 10-hour volunteer work in Nanjing political college library.

Nanjing political school was built in 1977. In 1986 was named Nanjing political college. It is near NNU and Nanjing University and it is a nice place. The library is not very modern and the book in it were almost old. I did the volunteer work with my four friends. We did this for two times and each time we did almost the same things. First we separate the books in different lines and then depend on their numbers separate the books from large to small. The next work is to clean the bookshelves. The third was to tell some new people about where to find books.

I remembered that once an old lady came to me and said where is the washroom, when I came in here I have asked the manager about the same question. She told me turn left and the washroom is over there, at that time, I was opposite to the door, but when the old lady asked me, I still gave her the same answer, so she went the wrong direction. After 10 minutes, she came back to me with some annoying on face and told me she did not find any washroom... I felt embarrassed and them show her the correct way to the washroom...

After that I paid more attention to my words and did more works then talking too much .

This experience taught me to do things carefully and have to be patient.

Eating in papa John's pizza

last month, my parents and me had dinner in a Indian restaurant at about seven o'clock. The environment was comfortable and the waiters were kind.

First, let me introduce the story of the Papa John. When Papa John 's (great! John) founder John Schneider sir was still in high school and worked for a local pizza shop he had a dream job: he wants for good stuffing make the best pizza, and would sent customers for free from the house. In 1984, John from wanderers state university graduated in business back home to Jefferson Neil city, begin to put dream into reality. First, he sold his car, spent $1,600 bought a set of restaurant equipment, and change general store into the kitchen, everyday made fresh and delicious Pisa, hospitality, soon more and more people came to buy pizza. And more and more customers like him. So the first Papa's John was born in 1985.

We ordered a piece of pizza and some chicken wings, also a cup of chocolate milk tea and some macaroni. The pizza was made of bread and some vegetables. Also some meat on top. I think this dinner is much different from that in China and our family, but I like it because it is new and tastes good. I remember there were a father with his child. He was teaching his son to say some English and told him English is very useful for him in his life. The tables were separate and people all enjoyed themselves a lot.

I also learnt to use knife and the spoon to have meal, I think it is different but not difficult. However, I think it is hard for a foreigner to learn how to use chopsticks. I also want to recommend other people to eat there because of the delicious food and the comfortable environment.

Physical activities

From last September, I began to learn a physical activity, it named kick-boxing. When I first knew it I think it must be a handsome and exciting activity. Because the clothing we need to wear is all white with a white-color belt in the middle. And with your level go higher, the color of the belt will be changed too. The highest level when you achieve is the color black. I thought it must be interesting to get that one. So I wanted to learn it well.
The first several classes we learnt are about side-split and cross-split. For I have never practiced it before, I felt really hard to do. Then I asked the master, with a little nervous. But he was kind and told me if I want to do it well, I should practice it every day and every time try my best. So almost everyday I practice it and I feel I can go better and better, I felt happy about this, so gradually, I stopped to do it and satisfied with what I could do. As you know, one month later, I almost back to the origin and could not do this again. The master said I should not be lazy any more and do it more careful. Then we learnt about kick. It is really fantastic I think, every time I saw others who can play this well and everyone admire of him or her. That feeling must be excellent! First kicking we learnt is side kick. It needs to use your instep to kick out. And we practice it for many times but the master still said no. The most words he said were: No energy. Then, we put more energy and effort in it. When he said better, we often felt happy. Next we learnt is Turning kick. It needs you to turn around and then kick. It seems easy but it is really hard to do it well. I remember that I did hurt my right foot' toe and could not move it for almost one week, also including the next week’s PE quiz. The exercise which gives me the deepest memory is learning about side somersault. I enjoy the person who likes a big wheel and walking in the air. I thought that feeling must be wonderful. So I wanted to learn it very much. But just looking, I still can not do it so far, I was afraid of that and thought maybe I will fell down and … So far, I still can not do it very well.
This morning, the weather is good, my mother and me went to Purple Mountain to have a rest. The sun shines beautifully and we felt comfortable, because of these days’ lazy, we started very slow, and I found even the elder can do it so well, so we found that we need to do it almost everyday in the morning if possible. At last, we still arrived at the top of the hill, we took photos and breathe the fresh air…
Herein before are my physical activities, I will do it once a week.

club

Not from the beginning, but at the middle of the first term for me in GCA. I was interested in soccer and also, soccer is the most popular in the world, the most extensive influence, and the biggest sports, known as “the first movement”. So I talked to Angle from Grade 12 if I could join it. She was surprised but she agreed me to join it and to be the manager, then she started to teach me something about it.
At the first several times when I went there, I was just stand or sit there to see what she was doing and remember some of the members in this team. Let me introduce something about it. The time is every week’s Thursday 4:15 p.m. and the place is the playground, unfortunately, if you have classes at that time of the week, it means you can not join this term. When the most of the people is arrived and the time is right. Angle started to roll call, then use a short time to practice, when having PE lesson and learning soccer, we also practiced this kind of thing. Like header, shoot, pass and stop... Then move on to the match time, the PE teacher divided the peoples into two groups and marked “A” or “B” in front of their names, and the game begin. At this time of the match, Angle can almost have a rest and sit in the football playground and look at the match, she told me that she was good at being a goalkeeper. I told her that I was interested in organizing the people. Next thing she often does is to record who plays better or have progress. I enjoy seeing them playing because often a person is passing the ball, and the people from other group stop it and the ball immediately went another direction. And also, the most people started to ran in the different direction. If possible, the ball went to the goal but suddenly the goal keeper appears and the ball stays in his hands quietly. The teacher is not relaxed at all, he needs to run with the ball and watch carefully about who is doing well in this game. At last, angle also told me that being the manager is not so tired because we have team leader and he organizes the game or arrange the small things in the team. I remember last time Angle decided which kind of cloth is the team cloth.
By these days’ studying about soccer, I knew more about it, there are 11 people in each group and each group must have overall consciousness. Until 1863, the first formal football game rule was established in Britain, it also marks the birth of modern football. And it 105 meters wide, 68 meters length. The surface must be flat and hardness, with no damage athletes and does not affect the normal operation of the ball. FIFA World Cup soccer World Cup organizing committee has instructions in artificial turf. This is such an interesting game and I enjoy it very much.

Volunteer work

During this winter vocation, I have done a very meaningful thing, which is doing volunteer work in Siya Garden Restaurant.
The first day I came there, I thought to be a waitress must be so easy that only need to give guest some water, say “Hello” to them, of course, the temperature there won’t be too hot or too cold. So it must be comfortable.
At about 10:00 A.M, there was no guest so early to have meal, but I should follow the other waitresses to learn how to fix up the tableware. In each room, there was 12-15 people’s seat. So always doing one same thing is a little bored. The most embarrassing thing I met is that I want to go to the washroom, so as usual, I went to it. But when I came out, the manger said to me in a very straight way ‘That is used for guests, we can not use it’. Then she told me where we can use it. I really feel embarrassing about it. Then I used to it.
Now I thought that I really did a lot of things, such as passing the dishes. For me, I thought it was very easy but I was wrong. We need to hold the dishes in only one arm and have a 90 degree in it. When you have this once, you feel it is so easy, but second, the third, you’ll feel it is not that easy and your arms will feel uncomfortable. If you send these dishes into the room, for some food, you have to distribute the food for every person. On a night, there was a big party there, and I was allowed to help them, I feel a little new and nervous. Because as usual, always others do things for me, but that day, I have to do things for the guest. At the first several times, when they asked “waitress”, I almost heard nothing, and other waitress often remind me, they are calling you! Then, I hurry to them and asked if they need help. They often looked at me for a moment and then said what they need. Maybe they thought why this restaurant need this stupid girl?.. But I don not care.
In there, I also learned about how to open the alcohol. Before this, I really don not how to open it and confuse about it. But now, I know it, so next time, when someone needs to open the alcohol, I also can open it for him or her. The last I learnt is how to put the dishes on the table although the guests did not eat them all. For example, I can put the little things in a small plant instead of the big one. In normal, each new dish should put in front of the main character and the last dishes always fruits. So we can put them on the top of some soup or other big plant maybe the guests will never eat.
In conclusion, from this volunteer work, I learnt about that a waitress is not as that easy that everyone can do it very comfortable. So in the next days I would like to do more volunteer works and feel more about this society.

Tacos

On December 31st, 2008, the last day of last year. We have a dinner with grade 12 students in tacos on Zhujianglu. First I met Connie at the school gate and we went together. It was really a lot of traffic at that time because of that is the exact time for people to go home, so we waited Angle from grade 12 for a long time, because of the hunger, we started to looking around the list and find maybe this or that is more delicious… but at last, we wait until Angle came.
“Tacos” is a traditional Mexican dish composed of a maize or wheat tortilla folded or rolled around a filling. The fact that a taco can be filled with practically any meat, fish, shellfish, vegetable, and cheese allows for its great versatility and variety. A taco is generally eaten out of hand, without the aid of utensils, and is often accompanied by a garnish such as salsa and often vegetables such as cilantro, onion, cabbage, tomato, or lettuce.
After that dinner , I know some tips about eating Mexican food.
Tell your server not to bring fried tortilla chips to the table.
Ask for low-fat sour cream or use salsa to add flavor.
Veracruz or other tomato-based sauces are better than cream or cheese sauces.
If you order a taco salad, don’t eat the fried shell.
I have eaten a big pizza during dinner time, and because of the super size of the pizza, I did not eat it all, but just left the food there is not very frugal so I asked for a package and bring them all. So the next morning, I still had yesterday’s dinner for breakfast.

Title: Sleeping baby

On a sunny Thursday morning, our class with Ms.Hadly went to Nanjing Normal University to have a view of Wu Weishan’s artwork. Before this trip, I have never heard about him, so I feel very excited to see him.
First, I want to introduce a kind of artwork to you. It is sculpture. A sculpture is a three-dimensional art object which can represent animate (human, animal, botanical, aquatic) or inanimate forms, communicate the sculptor’s interpretation of abstract ideas, or express, or evoke certain emotions. They can be created singly or in groups. In essence, sculpture is the assembly of a mass of ordinary material so that it expresses something that transcends its parts. Although most sculpture involves shaping or re-shaping materials, this is not strictly necessary. A sculpture may consist of a collection of objects or material that may not have been altered but are instead arranged in a meaningful way.
Then, among all the artwork, a small sculpture reminds me. It is a baby’s head made by metal. The color is brown with a little red. The lines are not very smooth. If you touch it you’ll feel the sculpture is very hard and uncomfortable. The artist used copper to do it.
The subject of the art work is baby sleeping deeply. I can see the profile of the art work and the you can see the baby’s mouth was opened and nostril is up, everything seems to be omission but the snoring of the site, it is very specific. So it is emphasizing how deeply the baby sleeps.
It makes me feel tired and I think it is also gives me a sense of humor. Also, it makes me think about my little sister. She is such a lovely baby and she is only 8-month-old until last summer. For most of the time, she is sleeping, when she is sleeping, she also has slobber on her small round face around her small mouth. Sometimes she smiles in my grandmother’s arms, maybe she dreamed of the rainbow or the secret Santa. Maybe the artist likes children very much and enjoy staying with them. During day times, they are playing and laughing and do everything happily, in the evening, they sleep deeply and become very quiet. That’s also interesting for me.
I really like this sleeping baby and want to know what is he dreaming about and I think they have no worries about anything else. Like us, we are secondary school students, so we should pay attention to our studies and relationship between friends, parents or teachers. Sometimes, it is really hard to make a decision. So, because of their young and know nothing, they are happy and no worries. Also they are most like angles too.
